Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Abigail

Pet of the Week

Meet Abigail! Aged like a good pinot noir at 10 years, Abigail has many fine notes. Sweetness and depth are pervasive with nary a hint of tartness. This is a truly fine kitty who looks and acts half her age and yet has mellowed gracefully with time. She is curious, playful, and full of life.

Bring out the laser pointer or feather on a string and she will spring into action for an entertaining romp (see her playing here). In quieter moments, she loves to roll over and have her soft fur stroked or brushed, all the while purring up a storm of contentment.

Like most cats, she will lay on her back and invite you to give her belly rubs. Unlike most cats, it’s not a trap! She loves belly rubs! Another of her favorite activities is to hang out on the cat tree where she can survey her realm and keep a close eye on all happenings. Abby’s previous foster dad describes her as a gentle companion who is happiest when in the same room with you and will snuggle on your lap for a relaxing evening on the sofa.

A well-mannered girl, she has impeccable litter box habits and is a pro with her scratching post. She will occasionally pause in her feather toy chase to use her scratching post or cardboard. A calm to moderately active household would be her ideal, and she should be fine with teens or cat-savvy older kids, but would prefer to be your one and only pet. (She has a history of being bullied by a dog who lived with her, as well as some cats, so she is quite wary of strangers and other pets.)

Like many cats, Abby needs to be fed a specially formulated diet to ensure her urinary tract health, and this food, which she loves to indulge in, is readily available. She chirps to let you know its meal time! In return for this minimum care, she will make a healthy, playful, and wonderfully loving companion.

Does well-balanced Abby sound like the one who could steal your heart? She’s waiting patiently in foster care for your call (she is not at the Shelter). Contact the Foster Care Hotline at 206-684-0685 to arrange a meeting. Her SAS ID is #29092863.
