Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Vinnie

Pet of the Week

Vinnie 1Meet Vinnie!

Vinnie is a ton of fun. This 7 pound, 4 year old(ish), miniature poodle boy is very high energy, loves to play fetch nonstop with a fuzzy toy, and is basically very sweet.

When he finally rests, he likes to snuggle. He is also mostly housebroken and crate-trained. He’s crated when his foster family is out (longest time has been 6 hours so far) and does fine after an initial protest.

He came into the shelter in rough shape after being neglected. He had a seizure after being sedated to be groomed. The vet put him on phenobarbital, and he has not had any more seizures.

Vinnie 2The vet wants to keep him on the meds for at least another few months, but he may be able to come off them eventually. He takes his pill like a champ, and the medication is relatively inexpensive. Overall, he’s made remarkable progress. He’s now a happy, sweet pup.

He likes to run zoomies around the yard, and because he’s still working on his leash walking and wearing a harness (due to his once-sensitive skin), it would be best if he lived in a house with a securely-fenced yard. He’s done great with kids over 10 years old but hasn’t been exposed to kids younger than that. We suspect he’d be ok with younger ones, as long as they were respectful of his space.

Vinnie 3He does enjoy playing with other dogs, and could possibly live with an energetic playmate close to his own size. But since he tends to get a little possessive, a resident dog should be easy-going and you should have experience with resource guarding. With attention and lots of exercise, he’d be fine as an only dog. He would love to join your family!

Vinnie (SAS ID #29326514) is being lavished with attention in a foster home, he is not at the Shelter. If you would like to meet him, you must submit a Dog Adoption Application to SAS. Download the application and follow the instructions for submitting it via email or fax. Or, you may pick up and drop off an application at the Shelter.
