Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Dolly & Luna

Looks like you need a gerbil in your life! How about two? My best buddy Luna and I (I’m Dolly) are looking for a home. What do you think?

Dolly and I are very active and fun. We are a shredding crew! We like to shred tissue, toilet paper rolls, cardboard, everything! It’s our number one hobby.

Then we like to dig in everything we shredded! That means we need a large home so we can roam and keep ourselves busy. We like jumping too (we’ve got some strong legs!)

We are bonded to each other and very cute when we sleep together, all nestled in our bed. Neither of us really enjoys being handled right now, but that could change once we get used to someone. It takes time to build a relationship!

Caring for gerbils: Two gerbils should ideally have at least a ten-gallon aquarium. Change their water bottle daily and make sure to wash it with soap and water during weekly cage cleaning. Carefresh is best for bedding. They need gerbil chow and you should keep the food bowl away from their bathroom area. Gerbils can also eat small amounts of dark greens, carrot and broccoli. Be careful with fruits though because they can be too sugary.

Luna and Dolly (SAS ID #33884910 and 33884912) are busily shredding away in a foster home while they wait for your call. If you would like to meet them, fill out a Small Animal Application available at the Shelter or here, and then meet with an animal care officer at the shelter for review. The Seattle Animal Shelter is located at 2061 15th Ave W. The shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday, 12-6 pm.

Updates on previously featured pets:

Misty (affectionate tabby cat) – available for adoption
Serenity (gentle and wise Siamese cat) – available for adoption
Peaches (young male rabbit) – available for adoption
Iggy Azalea (snuggly iguana) – available for adoption
Argon (quiet, noble little mouse) – available for adoption

Disclaimer: Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet. Happy adopting!
