Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Serenity

serenity-2From the Himalayan steppe comes a wise and gentle soul who has already lived a few of her nine lives. Not all of those lives have been kind to Serenity, as her abridged right ear attests, but this silky sybarite has by no means lost her love of life.

serenity-1The proof: Serenity has the belly of a Buddha and the purr of a snow leopard (the only big cat that can purr). Hearing it for the first time may prompt concerned examination of the nearest dishwasher, so startling is the throaty rumble from such a normally taciturn source.

Serenity is wary of new people and places, preferring to spend her days in quiet contemplation of the universe. But once you’ve won her trust, a friendly voice is all that it takes to draw Serenity forth from her seclusion. She loves to be brushed, petted, fed treats, and generally fawned over. The cloud-like softness of her fleecy fluff will entrance you. The experience of petting Serenity has been described as “transcendent” – take a look:

Nothing will win her love faster than scratch under the chin. She also becomes more active (and vocal) under cover of darkness, daring to explore larger swaths of the apartment and more often than not finding herself on someone’s bed in desperate need of cuddles. By day she will deny that any such undignified behavior could possibly have occurred.

serenity-3Serenity is looking for a peaceful, loving place to continue her quest for enlightenment (which she most often seeks at the bottom of her food bowl). Noisy children or other pets would be unwelcome distractions from her meditations.

So if you return the love in those enormous, limpid eyes, if a perennial purr would be the perfect background music in your home, if you long to bury your fingers in that heavenly fluff – come pay homage to Serenity. She is currently interviewing disciples.

Serenity (#A32140833) is waiting patiently to meet you in a foster home; you won’t find her at the Shelter. Please contact the Foster Care Hotline at (206) 684-0685 to arrange a meeting. Namaste.
