One of our readers, Audrey, spotted ABC News’ David Muir filming a segment at Queen Anne’s own Kerry Park earlier today and got the scoop on the story from David himself.

According to Audrey, David is in Seattle “on his nationwide quest to find manufactured goods made in the US” as part of an ongoing series called “Made in America” on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, which airs weeknights at at 5:30 p.m., on Channel 4 here in Seattle.
“Tonight he will be previewing what he found in Seattle, and this coming Monday through Wednesday he will be showing what he unearthed in making the rounds of Seattle stores and other places, which he told me include a clothing store that sells stuff made only locally and a bike clothing store that sells apparel made only in Seattle. ABC photographers were shooting David and friend riding in Kerry Park, up and down W. Highland Drive (you will recognize the houses when it airs), and in many other locales across the city. After watching him interview protestors in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and on the streets of Libya’s Benghazi, it was quite a shock to find him in front of Kerry Park this afternoon, I must admit. He is very sweet, very smart, and not a bad biker!” Audrey writes.
Can’t wait to check out what Seattle-made items made the “Made in America” list!
A few readers wrote in earlier this week wondering about a film crew shooting at Kerry Park Tuesday evening, blocking off most of the block on Highland Drive. The crew was apparently from America’s Most Wanted, filming a segment on the unsolved homicide of Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas C. Wales, who was fatally shot by a gunman at his Queen Anne home in October 2001. Coincidentally, the dedication for Thomas C. Wales Park, renamed in his honor in 2007, is happening this Saturday.
According to the Seattle Times, the AMW crew is filming all around the Seattle area this week, shooting in Pioneer Square, Queen Anne, Bainbridge Island and Lakewood for a number of re-enactments and features for the episode, which is scheduled to air on April 23 on KCPQ-TV.
One reader, Ted, noticed some more filming happening in the neighborhood, on W Lee, on Wednesday. Ted wrote,
They had the street signed off for no parking for most of the day so they had to file for permits. There were also alot of supply trucks and a huge RV which leads me to believe this is a bit more than a Microsoft training video.
I haven’t been able to confirm if this shoot was affiliated with the AMW shoot on Tuesday. Does anyone have any ideas what was filming on W Lee yesterday?
A warning to weekend commuters: a commercial being filmed on the Ballard Bridge this Sunday, March 27 from 6 to 10 a.m. will block the southbound lanes of the bridge for most of the morning.
“We will have the right southbound lane blocked up to the draw span and will be opening and closing the bridge several times during the shoot,” says location manager Doug du Mas. “Traffic across the bridge will be controlled by Seattle Police and people should expect delays. I suggest using the Fremont Bridge instead during these hours.”
The kids’ band, whose lead guitarist is also a teacher at Adams Elementary school, will be at the Vera Project at Seattle Center tonight starting at 6 p.m. They expect the filming to last about 30 minutes. Put your kiddos in bright colors with no logos. Tutus and ties are always welcome the group says on their Facebook Page. The Not-Its will have mini cupcakes to the mini participants.
One of our readers spotted a film crew outside the 5 Spot on Upper Queen Anne early Sunday morning (and by early, I mean around 2 a.m.!) A. A. wrote,
I just walked past the 5 Spot and saw them filming the movie “Grassroots” there. Jason Biggs and Lauren Ambrose were in the scene.
A little IMDB-ing told me that Grassroots is “the shocking true story of the 2001 Seattle race for City Council seat #8. Here’s the synopsis from IMDB:
After losing his job, a journalist reluctantly agrees to help his oddball friend with his bid to earn a seat on the Seattle City Council.
Grassroots is being directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal, father of Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, who also adapted the screenplay. The film has been shooting all over town, including in Phinney Ridge/Greenwood, Capitol Hill and elsewhere around town. I myself did not remember this race, but the folks over at Phinneywood did:
If that sounds familiar, it’s based on the true story of Phil Campbell (who used to work for The Stranger before becoming campaign manager) and Grant Cogswell, who ran for city council here in Seattle in 2001. Campbell wrote a book, “Zioncheck for President: A True Story of Idealism and Madness in American Politics,” which was adapted for “Grassroots.”
PBS will be filming at the Interbay P-Patch at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 31, for its new garden series “Growing A Greener World.” The P-Patch, located at 2451 15th Ave W, is a 132-plot, 43,000-square-foot urban garden managed by the Department of Neighborhoods. From PBS:
They will be interviewing two key volunteers about the history of Interbay, its development, the community it has created and about the gardeners who are devoted to community gardening.
Yesterday the Interbay P-Patch celebrated the opening of its own food bank garden. PBS’s gardening/eco-friendly living show will air nationwide beginning on May 15. The segment highlighting the Interbay P-Patch is set to air in the fall. If you happen to snap a picture of the shoot today, email us at tips@queenanneview.com.
Our sister-site, MagnoliaVoice is reporting that Nintendo filmed for a upcoming video game – Endless Ocean 2 (trailer here) – all day yesterday, Tuesday, January 19, at the Wild Salmon fish market at Fishermen’s Terminal. The sequel to Endless Ocean for the Wii console allows players to virtually scuba dive in six different diving locations with distinguished environments and things to see.
Thanks to Brooks who shot these pics and sent the info to MagnoliaVoice. The tentative release date for Endless Ocean II is Monday, February 22, 2010. Keep an eye out for the Wild Salmon fish market!
Based off of creator Craig Brewer‘s vision for the show, which followed a handful of Memphis bands in its first season, Seattle native Lynn Shelton took over as director of the second season and its cast of up-and-coming musicians fighting for “love, inspiration, and money to pay the rent”.
Mónica Guzman at the PI got the scoop on how the second season will depart from the original, which Shelton said she considered a bit more “contrived” in a later interview. “We wanted to keep it as close to reality as possible,” Shelton told Guzman, emphasizing that the band members would be organically connected to one another, and that the stories told would imitate events and situations from their own lives.
The trailer has been available for a few months now, but just came up on my radar when Guzman posted this update yesterday (Thanks again, Mónica!). Watch the trailer and see if you can spot the scene filmed right here in Queen Anne. Here’s a clue: Like the entire show, the setting relates to music. Still can’t get it? Here’s another clue: A link in this story will take you to the answer.
The release date for $5 Cover Seattle has not been announced yet, but the tagline for the show reads “Thirteen bands…one city…and one broke-down van,” which somehow seems very fitting.
Update: 7:37 p.m. – Justin confirms Tobey Maguire is on the set.
Update: 7:03 p.m. – Reader Justin, who lives on the block, writes:
Looks like the set is ready. Not sure if there’s any talent on set just yet, but they called “rolling” for the first time a couple minutes ago.
“The Details,” the indie dark comedy about a raccoon infestation, just can’t keep away from Queen Anne. Earlier this week star Tobey Maguire was shooting a scene at Kerry Park, and filming continued late into the night just a few blocks away.
Our reader, skibum1175, tipped us off that it looks like they’ll be filming on the top of the hill again tonight. The entire block of W Lee Street, in between 4th Ave W. and 5th Ave W. is blocked off for filming, and one of their loading trucks is already outside and waiting.
The signs indicate that the site is reserved from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. tonight, but given that they were filming in Ballard earlier today and are not yet set up in Queen Anne, it looks like it could be a late night for the crew.
No word yet on which stars will be there, if any. But given that this is a film about raccoons, they’ve definitely picked the right town. If you happen to catch any filming action, email us at tips@queenanneview.com.
Skibum1175 told us that although there were no star sightings…
…the late-night spectators included a neighborhood cat.
Skibum1175 writes,
Caught a closer glimpse. They’re filming outside and inside the garage (dimmer light in
background). See the kayak? How Seattle is that?
The film, a black comedy centered around a Seattle couple coping with a raccoon infestation, seems to be capturing the city well – kayaks, beautiful views, lots and lots of raccoons, and coffee!
