UPDATE: The Cash Mob is next Saturday, June 29th – but Cederberg Tea House is still set to open this Saturday, June 22nd.
It’s time for the monthly Queen Anne Cash Mob, organized by the Queen Anne Heart community group. The group is open to anyone who wants to support Queen Anne businesses and build our community, and the cash mob is an organized way to support our local businesses, one business at a time.
Each month, Queen Anne Heart chooses a local Queen Anne business to “mob” with cash on the last Saturday of the month [so, that means June 29th - I obviously was not looking at the right calendar]. Anyone can participate via joining the cash mob or shopping anytime that day and spending $20 at the selected business.
This month, there are two businesses to celebrate and support. As you may recall from our post a little over a month ago, the owners of Cederberg Tea House were hard at work getting ready for a June opening. Well, mark your calendars as that day is near – this Saturday, they’re opening for business at 1417 Queen Anne Ave N. To help welcome Cederberg to Queen Anne, the cash mob will first meet up at the new tea house at 2pm [note: next Saturday, June 29th - but stop by Cederberg this weekend to say hello!].
Next up, around 2:50pm the group will head across the street to mob Four Winds at 1521 Queen Anne Ave N. Plenty of gifts, textiles, furniture, and specialty items are fair game for your $20 – if you can’t join the group, stop by Four Winds over the weekend and just let them know the Queen Anne Cash Mob sent you.
The key goal is supporting our local shops, restaurants, and businesses – they help make Queen Anne unique! Join in the cash mob Saturday, June 29th, and stay tuned for July’s featured business.

Remember the Cash Mob organized last month for Pistil Flowers & Gifts? Well, the community group that put together the call to support this new business is moving forward with more Cash Mobs – and the next one is this Sunday, March 24th, which also happens to be National Cash Mob Day.
This month’s Cash Mob is for Communique, an independently owned local shop at 2211 Queen Anne Ave N that sells cards, gifts, and toys. What do you need to do? Just show up at 2pm on Sunday to support this local business and meet your neighbors at the same time.
The goal of the cash mob is to spend roughly $20 at an independent local business, and the power of the cash mob is in the numbers – the more people that shop locally, the more revenue the cash mob generates for the business.
Everyone is invited to join in, no RSVPs or other formalities are required. This and future cash mobs are arranged by Queen Anne Heart, a group of Queen Anne residents with a shared desire to build community and support local businesses that help create Queen Anne’s unique character.
Questions about Queen Anne Heart?
- Queen Anne residents: anyone is welcome to join the group and share ideas about what we want our community to look like and how to achieve those goals. Please contact Ben via email for more info on joining in.
- Queen Anne businesses: if you’d like to participate in a future cash mob, going forward there will be a lottery system of interested businesses. Please contact Ben via email if you’d like to get on the lottery list.

The Queen Anne community has multiple aspects that come together to form the heart and soul of our neighborhood – from residents to organizations to local businesses, we all make up the uniqueness of our neighborhood. And, now a new community group has formed to support our local businesses, and for Valentine’s Day, they’re asking residents to take part in a cash mob to support one of our newest Queen Anne shops, Pistil Flowers & Gifts.
What’s a cash mob and how do you participate? A cash mob is a group of people who meet at a local business and make purchases to help local businesses thrive and build community at the same time. To make the experience more manageable for both participants and merchants, the group is asking that people shop at Pistil between 10am and 7pm on Wednesday, February 13th or Thursday, February 14th – just mention “cash mob” when you make your purchase so the group can track the success of the first Queen Anne cash mob.
As you may recall from our January post, Pistil is at 1422 Queen Anne Ave N, across from the Chase bank on the corner. Owner Laurie Gardner is excited to be featured as the first Queen Anne cash mob business, and the only request is that you please pre-order custom Valentine’s Day arrangements by Wednesday, February 13th. The shop will also have pre-made arrangements available daily, including Valentine’s Day. You can contact Pistil via email or at 206.612.0973.
More Queen Anne cash mobs will follow, and all Queen Anne residents are welcome to join the group and share ideas about shaping and maintaining the neighborhood’s character and supporting local businesses. If you’re interested in joining this new community group, contact Suzi via email for more info.
