Sully’s Lounge expanding to Ballard
June 9th, 2011 by Geeky Swedes
Ballard is getting a new Irish pub and the owners know a thing or two about the business. When Kelly O’Brien’s opens next week, it will be the sister pub to Queen Anne’s Sully’s Lounge (1625 Queen Anne Ave N).
The Tellefson family owns Sully’s on Queen Anne and are expanding to Ballard with Kelly O’Briens (5410 17th Ave NW). The name is family-inspired, too. Kelly is Marcus Tellefson’s wife’s name and O’Brien is his mother’s maiden name.

We spoke with Marcus Tellefson who says that the family-owned pub will serve traditional pub grub. “We’ve got cheap happy hour food that we do all day, everyday,” he tells us, with happy hour drink specials from 4 to 6 p.m. On the menu will be mac & cheese, lamb sliders, wings, shepherd’s pie and “we’ve got a killer hot corned beef sandwich,” Marcus says. “It’s my mom’s recipe.”
Once they’re open, which will be either Wednesday or Thursday of next week, they’ll be open Monday through Friday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday and Sunday noon to 2 a.m. (Thanks Stan for the email tip & Gordy for posting in the forum!)

Wink bought out by PinkaBella Cupcakes
May 27th, 2011 by Thea
Things are going to be changing at Queen Anne’s Wink Cupcakes over the next few weeks. The cupcake shop, which opened up on the hill last year in January 2010, has been bought by another local cupcake chain–PinkaBella Cupcakes.
Last week PinkaBella posted the following notice about the cupcake merger on its Facebook page:
Wink Cupcakes and Pinkabella sitting in a tree.. YEP were married… Wink in Seattle is now Pinkabella cupcakes, A great Queen Anne location to serve you on the Seattle side… We will be transitioning over the next few weeks! Come see us and stay tuned for a Grand Re-open… until then Business as usual!
Wink officially transitioned over to serving PinkaBella cupcakes on Thursday. Wink became PinkaBella’s fourth location in the area. The other locations are in Redmond Town Center, Bellevue Square and the Alderwood Mall. PinkaBella posted the following note to Wink customers on its website:
If you were a Wink Cupcakes customer we look forward to serving you. Be sure to check out our Flavors and Pricing page. If you want to place an order be sure to visit our order page. (Please take a few minutes and review our guidelines for placing online orders as they do differ from Wink Cupcakes.)
We’ve reached out to Wink’s manager about the change, and will update this story with any additional information.

Underdawg Records & Flow Lounge say goodbye
November 1st, 2010 by Thea
While the weekend was full of Halloween festivities, two local business silently closed up shop for good on Friday. Underdawg Records in Lower Queen Anne announced it would be closing last month, shuttering its doors this past weekend.
(Thanks to reader Jai Schellhammer for the picture!)
No word yet on what will be going into its space at 532 Queen Anne Ave. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more.
While Underdawg was ushering in its last few customers on Friday, another business—this one at the top of the hill—also said goodbye.

Flow Restaurant and Lounge, which opened up at the corner of Boston Street and Queen Anne Ave N back in February, also closed on Friday night. Flow was the latest venture from owner of Orrapin Thai Cuisine next door, and the former restaurant at this location, Opal Bistro.
One of our readers heard rumors that the location will be transformed into a Mexican restaurant. Blake wrote us last week,
We were at Flow until around 10 last night and we started talking to the waiter who mentioned that this Friday was their last night in business…. I guess the owners are closing up shop and a new “high-end” mexican restaurant / lounge is moving in.

Interbay Cleaners opening in Lower QA
October 25th, 2010 by Thea
After a few long months of vacancy, Interbay Cleaners is opening a new location at the corner of Queen Anne Ave N and W Roy in Uptown—the former home of Counterbalance Bicycles.
Interbay Cleaners is a “green dry cleaner,” meaning that it uses organic and environmental friendly materials, as opposed to traditional chemical cleaners. From the website:
We have taken our big bold step to go green in dry cleaning (often called “organic cleaning”), turning away from the traditional dry cleaning methodology that we gradually found out to be terribly harmful to you and our planet, earth.
Organic dry-cleaning means that it only uses environmentally friendly and health solvent, as opposed to the harmful and toxic solvent used in traditional dry-cleaning. Our solvent* has been used in cosmetics and as food additives for many decades. Proving it to be absolutely safe for our health and environment.
The local company has another location, at 1827 15th Ave W in the Whole Foods complex in Interbay. I dropped by the new store last week and spoke with general manager, Alex. He expects that the Lower Queen Anne location will be open later this week. He also says the store will have an outside drop-off receptacle where customers can leave clothes after hours, which will be guaranteed ready for pick-up by 4 p.m. the next day.

Jamba Juice Leaves Queen Anne
October 23rd, 2008 by Miss Kitty
Jamba Juice has been a welcome addition to the Queen Anne business community for 10 years.
Sadly, a sign in the window of Jamba Juice, located at the top of Queen Anne Ave., near Caffeine Corner, announces that this business is closing their doors on December 16, 2008. The owners have decided to move to downtown Seattle at the end of their lease.
According to the announcement,
After 10 years of service on Queen Anne, Jamba Juice will be closing on December 16, 2008.
We sincerely thank each and every one of you for your patronage and support over the years and look forward to seeing you at one of our nearby locations.
Queen Anne residents will have to find an alternative after soccer games. Jamba, which means “celebrate,” was enjoyed by many who yearned for fresh and flavorful fruit drinks. For years Jamba Juice made it really easy to for people to enjoy their fresh and tasty treats. They even delivered to the curb.

Is Silver Platters spinning ’round and ’round?
October 22nd, 2008 by Miss Kitty
Is this a sign that the local economy is slowing way down? A sign on the store of the locally-owned, fiercely independent Silver Platters on lower Queen Anne caught the eye of Sam, a reader who asked, “What’s going on with the For Lease signs at Silver Platters? They just moved in.”

Silver Platters president Mike said that the lease taken by previous owners was “a bit too large for the current store.” Does anyone really need a translation?
Kidder Matthews leasing agent says that the 14,174 sq. ft. building housing Silver Platters is available for lease or sale. They might consider splitting the space, but only if the new tenants want the majority share of the space.

Speculation regarding Silver Platters future continues. Shoppers hope that this Queen Anne store doesn’t go the way of the Southcenter store which closed its doors earlier this year.
In the meantime, shop local and get ready for the holiday season. Check out the Platter Chatter for upcoming specials. And readers, let us know if you hear of other stores in the area who are feeling the pain.
