Burglars break in, cook meal, trash house

December 24th, 2010 by Thea

Marc wrote in to tell us of a break-in that happened at the top of the hill on Tuesday night:

My family and I were heading home from a nice dinner with friend and were heading down Bigelow toward our home.  We noticed five police cars around the 1700 block of Bigelow when my wife said, “Oh my God that’s Mom’ s house.” My mother in law’s house was broken into and ransacked by what we believe were some sort of drugged out intruders.  They pulled  the house apart, cooked a meal that destroyed the kitchen and left huge food messes all over the home.  They opened drawers and cabinets and strew about their contents everywhere looking for something.  Five officers investigated the scene and took fingerprints.  They claimed the intruders were possibly the “stupidest” burglars they had ever seen.  In the wake of their destruction they took few if any valuables with them.  The house is for sale and was empty of most valuables but is lived in a couple of days a week.

Juniper Flowers robbed over the weekend

March 31st, 2010 by Thea

Mike Allen at Juniper Flowers, located at 308 W. Republican St., just wrote in informing us that their shop was broken into over the weekend (sometime between the evening of March 26 and the morning of March 27). He wrote,

We were vandalized on Friday night/Saturday morning. Our business is in lower Queen Anne on Republican St. Someone attempted to break the glass on our door. When they were unsuccessful, they broke a much larger window with a rock to gain access. They made off with our cash register. Just thought residents of Queen Anne should know.

If anyone has any information about this break-in, please comment below.

Car prowls continue in Upper Queen Anne

March 16th, 2010 by Thea

After hearing reports of more car break-ins yesterday, reader Dustin discovered that his car had also been targeted either overnight last night (Monday) or the night before (Sunday) at 5th Ave N and Highland. He wrote,

I didn’t use my car yesterday so I’m not too sure which night specifically that it happened. But I also came to my car this morning to find the inside all disheveled. Luckily, I don’t keep valuables in my car so nothing was missing. I guess they were disappointed to only find golf shoes, a couple of my gig posters, and CD-R demos in the back seat. This is the second time my car has been broken into in the last two years I’ve lived at this address…the last time…vandals ran off with a tail light. I guess Queen Anne is prime for these people. Maybe from now on I’ll leave a Hallmark Card on the front seat to sing them a song… maybe that way they’ll at least steal one of my demos and come to a gig.

Though Dustin didn’t have anything of value taken from his car, he wants to remind neighbors to keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activity, especially with recent reports of more and more car prowls in Queen Anne.

Car parked in alleyway broken into overnight

February 21st, 2010 by Thea

Two of our readers, Colleen & Aaron, had their car broken into outside their Queen Anne home sometime between the evening of Friday, February 19 and the morning of Saturday, February 20. Many personal items were taken and they wrote in hoping that someone in the neighborhood might have more information that could help them locate their belongings.

Several items were stolen from us sometime last [Friday] night. The items were stolen from our car, which was parked in our driveway in the alley between 8th and 9th Ave W between Howe and Crockett. Most notably, a black backpack was stolen which contains items of personal and sentimental value. If you or any of your blog readers have information will you please let us know? We will give a reward for the return of the backpack and it’s contents.

Colleen and Aaron ask that anyone with information, or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area between Friday evening and Saturday morning, write in the comments below, or email me at tips@queenanneview.com so that I may pass along their contact number.

Suspects break into Center House, get drunk & binge on baked goods

December 8th, 2009 by Thea

Our friends over at SeattleCrime.com have caught wind of an interesting Queen Anne break in almost a week ago now. According to a police report, two people broke into the Center House at Seattle Center sometime either late in the evening of Monday, November 30, or early in the morning on Tuesday, December 1, triggering the alarm. According to the report, the two got drunk and ate a bunch of baked good from a food case in one of the cafes, the keys to which employees said are usually hidden. Police reported that they found a half-consumed bottle of vodka and half-eaten muffin at the site the next day, and suspect that an ex-employee let go back in September may have been involved. “The suspects thought that they had disarmed the alarm system prior to their alcohol binge,” Officer Stephan Auralaid wrote in the report. However, an alarm was in fact triggered, and police have video of the two suspects inside the Center House. Some of the cafe staff believe they may be able to identify them.

Thanks, SeattleCrime.com, for the report!
