FOUND CAT: Neutered Male Brown & Blk Tabby Stripe, White Chest, White Socks

FOUND in Lower Queen Anne: FRIENDLY MALE NEUTERED TABBY CAT, brown & black stripes, white chest, white "socks" on all feet.

I'm calling him "BAGSY" because this friendly, affectionate little guy was so hungry that he jumped into my grocery bag that I had set down while waiting for the crosswalk light at busy intersection of Queen Anne Ave. & Aloha St.
He must have smelled the cat food inside, because he immediately started scratching & digging in my grocery bag. When I pushed him out and walked across the street, he followed me home, so I took him in and fed him.

He ate 16 oz of wet food in one sitting and a cup of dry food on top of that in the next hour. He was starving!

I took him to the vet and he isn't microchipped, but he is neutered, and appears to be a mature cat, possibly older, and looks healthy He has been using the litter box and has very nice manners. He has a ring around the neck (where hair is slightly shorter) suggesting he had a collar at some point, but lost it.

He is adorable and sweet, but I cannot keep him because I already have two cats who are territorial in my small apartment.....
so IF YOU ARE HIS OWNER or WANT TO ADOPT HIM as an indoor cat so he doesn't roam the streets hungry & wandering around dangerous traffic again:

EMAIL ME RIGHT AWAY for photos.

The St. Paul's Choristers are looking for more singers! Have any children interested in singing? Ages are 5 and up, and no music experience necessary. One does not have to be a member of the Parish to sing in the choir as well. Recent performances were at the Bayview Retirement Center, MarQueen Hotel Lobby, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. This is a vital group of children that sings for about three or more short concerts a year, and rehearses on Sundays from 12:45pm-1:15pm, in the choir room at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 15 Roy Street, Seattle, WA 98109. The children learn basic music skills in sight-reading, singing, teamwork, music theory, and also have a lot of fun and enjoyment working with each other.

Interested? Please contact Jessica, the Director, at french.jessica84@gmail.com

BUS CUTS meeting in Queen Anne

Metro will hold a meeting for public feedback on the proposed elimination of the No. 2 and No. 4 local bus routes, and the proposed revisions to the No. 1, 13 and 3 routes.

*At the Queen Anne Community Center, 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 23.*

Get info about revisions, including maps for proposed changes, at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/have-a-say/projects/restructuring-system.html. You can also fill out an online survey with comments about the proposed changes.

My comments to Metro:

Specifically the changes to the No 2 N local strands half of the upper QA neighborhood far (a MINIMUM of .4 miles) from convenient, accessible transit. This is an old trolley line around which a dense neighborhood has grown - lots of retired folks, single younger workers, and working families who live here specifically for the current excellent access to public transit. We've already achieved transit-oriented growth in QA.

Metro's own published numbers of rider metrics on the No. 2 don't support the conclusion that the No. 2 is inefficient. How is metro even making this choice - other than through some determination that somehow Queen Anne is over-served?

Should we even be talking about efficiency on a collector line? Some neighborhoods like QA and Magnolia are dead ends, and are served by collector buses - or "spokes" - in our "hub and spoke system". We should acknowledge that these lines will never be "efficient" but they serve the purpose of connecting riders to the hubs, and the overall transit network, where they can utilize more efficient routes.

Metro tries to make this about efficiency - but it's a false economy. Asking people to walk a half mile or more (20 to 30 minutes) doesn't improve the efficiency of their overall trip and will drive them away from using the bus. I strongly believe that eliminating the No.2 and channeling more No. 13 buses through the already heavily congested central business corridor in QA won't necessarily improve riders trip times on the No. 13 - everything will just slow down, get less convenient and be less accessible.

Laptop Keyboard Repair Tips

After a long time of use, your laptop keyboard may not work normally because of accumulated dust, failing keys or other broken parts. Many may think of buying a new one, but it is not necessary to purchase a new one. All you need to do is repairing it by yourself because this is less costly and it is somewhat interesting for some laptop users. And here we will talk about the laptop keyboard repair tips.

If a key is missing, you don’t need to replace the whole keyboard. You can fix it using this guide. Continue releasing plastic latches and removing the keyboard bezel with your fingers. Remove three (or more) screws from the top of the laptop keyboard. Carefully lift up the keyboard from the laptop case. After the bezel is removed you get an access to the keyboard screws. Remove two (or more) screws. Release the plastic latch pointed with the red arrow and lift up the keyboard. Carefully put the keyboard aside so you can access the connector underneath the keyboard. Before you remove the keyboard, you’ll have to open the connector and release the flat ribbon cable. If you spill water on your keyboard, there is a good chance you won’t need keyboard replacement. But if you spill soda or any other liquid that contains sugar, you may need to replace the keyboard. What ever you do if you spill something into your keyboard, do not use a hot hairdryer to dry it out. This is usually how those melted keys happen.

For water spills the first thing you want to do is shut off your computer, if it isn’t already, to make sure you don’t short it out. Do not turn it back on again. Start by tipping your keyboard upside down over a towel. Do not shake the computer as this may cause the water to go into other areas. After you feel the water has drained out, turn it back over and use a hairdryer set at “cool” to further dry it out. Do not power on your computer for several days giving it a chance to completely dry out. If you got dust in the laptop keyboard, you should shut down the laptop and unplug your laptop and removing the laptop battery. Turn your laptop over with the cover open and very gently tap on the bottom of the case. Next spray a non-conductive electronics cleaner onto a lint-free cloth and wipe the keys. Do not spray the cleaner directly into the keyboard or use paper towels.

If you know the above tips, and understand how to do it, you can repair the laptop keyboard by yourself and save much money.

Umpqua Bank is committed to giving back to the neighborhoods where our stores reside. This fall, we asked Seattleites to tell us what they love about where they live. They eagerly answered with texts, written love notes, and votes on Facebook. The votes have been counted and the three most-loved neighborhoods–Bellevue, Magnolia, and Queen Anne–will each receive $10,000 for a community project from Umpqua's Build Your Block Program.

Now comes the really fun part: Figuring out how to spend the money. Do you have ideas about what would make these great neighborhoods even better?

I'm sorry for your loss. I did not come across any cellos, but I just had a quick tip in case you had plans to replace it (with help of insurance).

You can file it under your home insurance and they should take care of it since it is considered personal property. If you have any questions about this, let me know. I work in this field and am willing to provide any help I can.

Hi,

Are you looking to add some wildlife to your urban landscape? Volunteer to become a bee hive host. I currently have availability for 2-3 host locations in Queen Anne for 2012 (I will keep names on a waiting list if you would like). Honey bee's will forage all over Queen Anne hill and improve the flowers and vegetables - so if you don't have much in your yard don't worry. Hive placement is seasonal (March-Oct) with at least 2 hives at any location. I typically check hives every 1-2 weeks throughout the season.

Ideal locations get several hours of full sun and are away from foot traffic in a low visibility location. If you are interested in becoming a hive host please email me at: jeffcool (at) hotmail.com

Thank you

- Jeff

Metro still trying to kill the No. 2 bus

Some thoughts on "efficiency" versus what is essential or useful from the Seattle Transit Blog (http://seattletransitblog.com/2011/06/20/good-metro-cuts/) from the earlier round of the Metro bus cuts:

..."One can always make a system more “cost-effective” overall by simply shrinking it down to a dozen or so of the best routes, but then you’ve simply given up on having a comprehensive system. Put another way, when sensible policies are in place the marginal service to be added or deleted is almost always somewhat inefficient.

It’s one thing to say that unproductive routes are being cut to divert resources to better ones, because there’s a greater good being served. But even a lousy route is someone’s most efficient way home, the route that is within easy walking distance for a disabled person, or one that makes some part of the county reachable by transit."

In western, upper Queen Queen Anne, we're out on a dead-end spoke of the spoke-and-hub transit system. Are you willing to walk a half-mile to catch a mid-day or weekend bus? Or should we expect some of the spokes will always, by definition, be lower-ridership buses connecting riders to the "hubs" down-town?

Can Metro make other changes to improve "efficiency" without stranding a huge chuck of riders in our neighborhood? Smaller buses? less frequent buses during lower ridership times? No bus after midnight (much like the No. 1 was for years)?

Did you move to Q.A. initially because of the access to the bus? Have you given up your car because of the current bus access?

Give Metro feedback on how the Queen Anne Re-org will affect you. Bus schedules should benefit riders - not statistics!

Cutting the No. 2 and No. 4 bus lines is a result of much bigger systemic issues within Metro, not just the result of a few non-payers. Metro has consistently argued that the No. 2 is "inefficient" while the last available detailed boarding data showed the No. 2 was in the top five lines for both daily boardings and profitability - non-paying riders not withstanding!

Write Larry Phillips (larry.phillips@kingcounty.gov), the King County Council Rep for Queen Anne and let him know your concerns. Tell Metro to show us the data! Ask Metro to reduce hours, not eliminate the No. 2!

And maybe pay it forward by passing your transfer to a hungry guy on the way to a Bethany dinner.

It has come to my attention there will be cuts to the bus routes servicing Queen Anne. As someone who rides the bus to and from work, 5 days a week and has for years, this is disconcerning at the least.

I hate to bring this up, but it's something I have witnessed almost weekly for a while now and that is the Wednesday night free dinner held at Bethany Presbyterian Church on Queen Anne Ave N. Many homeless use the bus system to attend this dinner and a majority of them refuse to pay. I have seen MANY arguments transpire between bus driver and homeless. They use the service to get them to the free dinner, but then refuse to pay the required fare. I can't help but wonder if this directly impacts Metro's decision to cut bus routes on Queen Anne. I understand these people are homeless and may or may not have a lot of money, but it is completely unfair and ridiculous that they just assume they don't have to pay the $2.25 to ride the bus to the top of the Hill.

The Church needs to supplement the bus system somehow for these riders or provide transportation to those who attend the dinner.

Once again, Metro is trying to kill the non-express (in other words, local) No. 2 bus line in Queen Anne. (Yes, even though we campaigned, wrote letters, rallied, attended meetings and voted for a new increase in transit funding.)

This time, they make the ludicrous - if not just outright insulting - assertion that we who ride the bus in Queen Anne must be "confused" by the No 2 and No 13 bus schedules. From Metro (http://metro.kingcounty.gov/have-a-say/get-in-the-know/projects/route-information.html) "Customers in Queen Anne will no longer have to choose between two routes that stop at different locations, or try to guess which bus will come first."

I'm certainly not "confused" about the fact that I would have to walk an additional 20 minutes to commute to work each way, everyday.

I don't know anyone who is confused by the "choice" of riding the No 2 or the No 13 since the upper Queen routes are at a minimum 6 blocks apart.

Neighbors - let your King County Councilman Larry Phillips (larry.phillips@kingcounty.gov) know how you feel about reducing our bus service!

Attend the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce town hall meeting (http://qachamber.org/calendar-of-events/558/) and ask Mayor McGinn to tell Metro to prove that the No 2 should be cut - provide us with the data that shows the No 2 local is underutilized. The last publicly available data show the No. 2 to be one of the busiest, most profitable lines in the system. Ask Mayor McGuinn 'How can we build a useable, accessible, sustainable, mass transit system by reducing service and cutting lines in the most densely populated neighborhoods?'

Three businesses in one building can't reach agreement on leases with the same landlord and the landlord wonders why they all decided to quit at the same time? Sounds like the landlord is pushing rates in a down economy, or positioning for another 4-story, retail on the ground floor type development that has become ubiquitous on Queen Anne Ave.
