Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Quince & Fiona

Quince and Fiona are bunny siblings who have never been separated and must be adopted together. (Of course, they are both neutered.) In addition to being very cute, they also have exquisitely soft and thick fur. Both are super friendly and love attention but on their own terms. Quince enjoys “bunstruction,” rearranging the items in his habitat to his liking, and it can be quite entertaining to watch him do this.

Rabbits can make great house pets. They are quiet, have lots of personality and bond closely with their humans. House rabbits need a large, rabbit-proofed **indoor** area of your home to live in, with covered areas to hide and relax in. Rabbits are intelligent and social animals; they do best with a rabbit companion, and need daily interaction with their human friends.

Rabbits should be fed high-quality hay pellets, unlimited hay, and fresh leafy greens. (Leaf lettuce, carrot tops, parsley, cilantro, and pesticide-free dandelion are good choices.) Treats include small portions of carrot or fruit, such as apple, berries, pear, grape, or banana. Your rabbit will need regular nail trims and vet checks. With proper care and lots of love, rabbits can live to be 10-12 years old.

Fiona_Quince 1You are expected to make a lifetime commitment to your bunnies, and they should be treated as an integral part of the family. The primary caregiver must be a responsible adult, and young children should always be supervised when interacting with your bunny and instructed on proper approach and handling. Household cats or dogs should be carefully supervised at all times.

Fiona and Quince (SAS ID# 30058019 and 30066199) can be found romping around the Critter Room at the Shelter (Quince will probably be rearranging something).

Come on down and meet them and their bunny friends today!
