On Fridays, we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Tuesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Meet Meesha!

Meesha 1Meesha is a beautiful ball python who came into the shelter after being lost in the walls of his owner’s house for four months! Happily, Meesha finally found his way back into the house, and is now in a foster home waiting for his new family. Potential adopters should have prior experience with pet snakes and/or have done extensive research on their care and needs.

Your ball python will need a cage that provides him with plenty of space to move around, climb and hide. Full spectrum lighting is recommended and your snake will need a heat lamp as well. A temperature gradient of 75°-85°F should be maintained, as well as 30%-70% humidity. ** Never use heat rocks and avoid heating pads, as these can cause severe burns.**

Meesha 2Your snake’s cage should be lined with an appropriate substrate, such as Carefresh or Yesterday’s News. Coconut fiber is also ok. A large dish of water should be accessible at all times for your snake to soak and defecate in. Ideally, the water dish should be large enough for your snake to completely submerge, and the water should be changed often.

With proper care and love, ball pythons can live 12-14 years. Adult males can grow to 5 feet in length and adult females to 3 feet in length.

If you think Meesha (SAS ID #29195439) might be the right new friend for you, please call the foster care hotline at (206) 684-0685 or email sasfostercritters@gmail.com.
