Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Unusual Pets of the Week – Red-Eared Slider Turtles

This week, we are featuring three red-eared slider turtles that are currently available through the Shelter. Slider turtles are not a short-term pet; with good care, they can live 40-50 years. They require a large, filtered and heated aquarium (maintained at 75-80 degrees F), with an out-of-water basking area (maintained at 85 degrees F) and a broad-spectrum UV lamp. Sliders should be fed a mix of good-quality turtle pellets (Mazuri Aquatic Turtle Diet is recommended), and fresh foods such as kale, mustard greens, dandelion greens, winter squash, and carrots. Potential adopters should have previous experience with slider turtles and/or done extensive research on their care and needs.

If you’re looking for a long-term, unusual pet, one of these Sliders may be for you. All three of these turtles are being adored and cared for in foster homes. If you would like to meet one of them, please call the foster care hotline at (206) 684-0685 or email sasfostercritters@gmail.com.

TurboTURBO (#15-5985) – “Hi, I’m Turbo, your future pet. I am a gentle turtle, so I won’t bite! I’m extremely curious and smart. I really love my turtle pellets! I also like to run around. I am active, rather large, and love spending time with humans. Also, I give you my permission to pet my head! I’m a little camera shy but check out the great video of me walking around the Seattle Pet Expo on my Petfinder page.” [photo is a still shot from Turbo’s video, and he can move!]

Turbo is a very active turtle with a great personality! She loves to get out of her tank for some regular exercise. She’ll be happy to stroll by your side in a safe and contained area, like she did at the Seattle Pet Expo. Turbo is very curious and likes to meet new people! If you can offer Turbo a good home a lots of love, contact the foster care hotline today!

EINSTEIN (#14-24097) – Einstein is an intelligent turtle with his own special good looks and charisma. This sage fellow doesn’t bother himself with the typical coloration of a Red-Eared Slider, rather Einstein sports his own tasteful mix of dark green and brown. Einstein is a friendly and laid back kind of guy, you can see his sweet and amiable smile in the photos. Einstein enjoys swimming, basking and meditating.

When Einstein came into the shelter he was very sick, and he has had a rough few months. With TLC and time, Einstein’s health is on the up and up; he’s gained back his strength and is looking for a forever home where he’ll be able to swim in a large heated tank or pond and have safe places to bask under a heat lamp whilst pondering the universe.

Einstein is truly Turtle-ly Awesome and deserves an extra-special home! If you think you can offer him the right kind of home and place in your heart, contact the foster care hotline today to set up a meeting.

Shelly 1SHELLY (#14-22234) – Shelly is a large and beautiful red-eared slider turtle. She loves to bask under her heat lamp and enjoys occasional out-of-tank exercise and dry land time. Shelly is a good eater and has a big appetite. Similar to Einstein, Shelly was very ill when she came into the shelter, but has been nursed back to good health in foster care. This gorgeous girl really deserves a wonderful forever home! Shelly would get along well with other female sliders.
