Canlis 2015 wineSummer weather practically demands Rose, and Canlis is delivering again – and for some lucky Queen Anne residents, delivery could be done via Mark Canlis himself. The 2015 QAFM Rose is available for pre-orders, with all proceeds benefitting our very own Queen Anne Farmers Market!

For a select few Queen Anne residents who pre-order a case or more of the Canlis Kerloo Cellars Grenache Rose, Mark Canlis will deliver the order in person… perhaps in a little red wagon with kids in tow!

This is the third year that Canlis has supported QAFM. According to Maria College, QAFM Director and Board President: “We are extremely blessed to have such generous neighbors that really care and invest in the success of our non-profit, community farmers market. Our heartfelt thanks to Mark Canlis and the rest of the Canlis family for their ongoing support.”

We had the opportunity to ask some questions of Mark, before he heads out on a few special Queen Anne deliveries:

Why produce a wine that benefits the QAFM?
“My Grandfather lived here in the 50’s. This has been our neighborhood for three generations. We live here, work here, trick or treat here, go to school here, sled the counterbalance, drink our coffee, mail things from the dispatch and have eaten thousands of sausages from AJ’s. So when a farmer’s market opened up down the street, you can imagine we were hungry to support it.”

How did Canlis decide on the flavor profile of the Rose?
“We just love good rose. I don’t care if it’s rose hips and orange blossoms or peach skins and fraise du bois. Rose is rose: chillable, quaffable in big gulps, able to handle summer, late nights, early afternoons, smokey bbq’s, sprinklers, ice cubes, full moons, picknicks, whatever. Kerloo makes beautiful wine. We went down there as a staff, tasted through a bunch of barrels, and blended up a wine we all thought would pair with the season, with our big, lazy, scorchin’ summer lives. As it happens, this one is awfully good. But that’s a function of the winemaker and the soil more than us.”

Tell us more about the local Queen Anne wine deliveries via little red wagon
“There’s only 34 cases left. So we’ll deliver them all if need be. (But yes, Queen Anne only please. And only for full-case orders…which in our home, is just shy of three weeks worth 🙂 This is our town, our community, our market, our wine. The kids and I are up for getting out and meeting the neighbors. Still, it’s a pretty big hill, so that red wagon may end up looking like my red pick up truck. But the spirit is just the same.”

You can order your case (or more) by contacting Canlis at 206-283-3313 or via email. You can also stop by the QAFM, McCarthy & Schiering, or Met Market (Uptown) for your QAFM Rose fix. The wine sells for $19 per bottle, with all proceeds benefitting our nonprofit farmers market.
