5th Ave N closed between Mercer and Republican this weekend

Plan ahead for weekend travels around the Seattle Center, as 5th Ave N will be fully closed between Mercer and Republican beginning at 11pm tonight (Friday, May 15th) through 5am Monday, May 18th.

The closures is to accommodate maintenance hole removal and replacement at 5th Ave N and Republican St, as well as permanent striping on 5th Ave N and on Broad Street. This work is part of the Mercer Corridor Project.

Take note: Key Arena is hosting several commencements this weekend, with 12,500 people expected to attend. Also, the SIFF International Film Festival is underway and hosting events at SIFF Film Center, SIFF Uptown, and McCaw Hall.

Per SDOT:

  • 5th Ave N will remain fully closed to traffic between Mercer and Republican streets through 5am Monday, May 18.
  • One northbound lane on 5th Ave N will be maintained at all times between Denny Way and Mercer Street. The northbound lane will be diverted west at Republican Street and connect to Mercer Street via 4th Ave N.
  • Southbound 5th Ave N will be fully closed between Mercer Street and Denny Way. One southbound lane on 5th Ave N will reopen between Harrison Street and Denny Way when striping on is complete, expected at approximately 11am, Saturday, May 17.
  • Traffic on Broad Street will reopen between 5th Ave N and John Street once striping on Broad Street is complete, expected at approximately 5pm, Saturday, May 17.
  • Police officers will be stationed along 5th Ave N to help facilitate traffic flow.
  • Travelers should use Dexter Avenue North, Queen Anne Avenue North, and 1st Ave N as alternate routes throughout the weekend.
