Just two days ago we posted on the closing of Einstein Bros Bagels. A sign stating they would be closing the business was posted with the date of Tuesday, February 24th.
Well, change that to today, and Einstein is now closed. A reader sent us a photo (thanks, Aaron!) of an updated sign with today’s date – so don’t plan on getting bagels for breakfast this weekend (at least not on Upper Queen Anne).
Already, the Queen Anne location is absent from the Einstein Bros Bagels web site (it was there two days ago – they are prompt).
When we asked about the closure, the company representative provided an official statement:
“After careful evaluation, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. (“ENRGI”) has come to the difficult decision to close 39 underperforming restaurants, effective Tuesday, February 24, 2015. The company will continue to focus on its high-performing restaurants to ensure the future growth and success of the business. ENRGI values the continued support of its customers, and the dedication and hard work of all its employees.”
The next closest Einstein location is at 2201 Westlake Ave in South Lake Union if you’re up for Mercer traffic and SLU parking. Or, if you want to stay on Queen Anne, Eltana Bagels has a location in the Seattle Center, as well as a location to the north in Wallingford.
