It’s New Year’s Eve and that means the crew setting up the fireworks display at the Space Needle should be ready to see their work pay off. The New Year’s at the Needle show begins at 11:59pm tonight and will run 8 minutes, with the pyrotechnics set to a musical selection curated by KEXP.

You can catch the show from various Queen Anne viewpoints or you can join the crowds at the Seattle Center. If you choose the latter, expect to be one of about 16,000 people expected at the Space Needle.

Prior to the fireworks, you can enjoy a free concert by THE NINES at the Seattle Center Armory’s Center Stage. They’ll be performing from 8pm til 11:45pm, and their repertoire includes hits from a variety of genres – The Beatles, Prince, and KC and the Sunshine Band are all on their playlist.

Streets around the Space Needle will be closed starting at 11:30pm, reopening 45 minutes after the fireworks show concludes. Affected streets include 5th Ave N between Mercer Street and Denny Way, and Broad Street between 5th Ave N and Denny Way.

The street closures, festivities, and crowds add up to a good reason to walk if you’re around Lower Queen Anne tonight.

Happy New Year!
