Mercer Corridor Project logoRemember the good news about the West Emerson Overpass opening early? Well, here’s the other side of the coin, but it’s a well-worn side that we’re all accustomed to… Mercer Street.

Emergency pavement work on Mercer Street has all but one lane of westbound Mercer closed today, Friday, between 8th Ave N and 99/Aurora – and that closure has been extended to 4:30pm. It was scheduled to open at 3pm, but it’ll now have rush-hour traffic pinched down to one lane through 4:3opm.

Plus, other Mercer lane closures are planned for early next week and Taylor Ave N is closed until SDOT can complete work at the Mercer intersection.

Here are the details from SDOT:

Emergency lane restriction on westbound Mercer Street today:
The scheduled lane restrictions for westbound Mercer Street which typically last until 3 p.m., will be extended to 4:30 p.m. today for emergency pavement repairs. Westbound Mercer Street will be restricted to one lane between Eighth Avenue North and SR 99. Please plan ahead and expect traffic delays.

Daytime lane restriction on westbound Mercer Street, December 22 and 23:
Westbound Mercer Street will be restricted to one lane between Dexter Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This lane restriction is necessary to accommodate concrete pours. One lane will remain open at all times. Please plan ahead and expect traffic delays.

Taylor Avenue N:
Please note northbound Taylor Avenue North will remain closed until further notice to accommodate sidewalk and electrical work. Full closures of Taylor Avenue North at Mercer Street will occur as needed and will be announced in advance.
