Meet Muffin and Flash!

Muffin n Flash 2014-11-13 3

Well hello there! We’re awfully glad to meet you. We’re a bonded pair of guinea pigs looking for a forever home where we’ll get lots of love! We must be adopted together.

We’re a little on the shy side, but we’re getting more used to being held. Once picked up, Muffin (smaller female) is a little more outgoing and curious than Flash (male), although she loves to hide in small spaces.

Flash is shy when being held, but in the cage he likes to sit outside the plastic igloo and munch on delicious hay. We both love hay, fresh parsley and bell peppers.

Muffin n Flash 2014-11-13 1More about Guinea Pigs: Guinea pigs need a large flat-bottomed living space, with areas where they can take shelter and relax if they feel nervous. Guinea pigs should have an hour or more of supervised playtime daily for exercise and stimulation, but it’s important to remember that guinea pigs *cannot* use an exercise wheel or ball. Guinea pigs are social animals and do best when kept in pairs or small groups and enjoy spending time with their people too.

Guinea pigs should be fed a high-quality pellet formulated for guinea pigs, unlimited hay, and fresh leafy greens. (Greens low in calcium such as lettuce, parsley, carrot tops, and cilantro are good choices.) Guinea pigs also require vitamin C supplement; offering a slice or two of orange or bell pepper daily is an easy and delicious way to provide the vitamin C they need.

Muffin n Flash 2014-11-13 2There is a low fee to adopt a guinea pig from the Seattle Animal Shelter; however, you are expected to make a lifetime commitment to your adopted piggies. The primary caregiver must be a responsible adult. Your piggy should be treated as an integral part of the family. Your guinea pigs will also need regular nail trims and vet checks. With good care and lots of love, guinea pigs can live to be 5 to 7 years old.

Flash and Muffin (SAS ID #14-19425-1 & 2) are currently being adored in a foster home. If you’re interested in adopting this pair, please call the foster care hotline at (206) 684-0685, or email sasfostercritters@gmail.com.
