Mercer Corridor Project logoSDOT work will close a section of Mercer St this Friday night, and the Battery St Tunnel will be closed Saturday night.

Also, an early heads-up that Mercer and 5th Ave N will be closed for a yet unspecified weekend:

“Relief is coming as crews are hard at work to open a third eastbound lane on Mercer Street east of Fifth Avenue North by late November. This new Mercer Street configuration will also include two new left turn lanes from westbound Mercer Street onto southbound Fifth Avenue North and is a major milestone as the project works to complete the West Phase of the project. In order to meet this milestone, crews will be fully closing a portion of Mercer Street and Fifth Avenue North during one weekend in November.”

As soon as we have details on the Mercer/5th Ave N closure, we’ll post the days/times/detours. In the meantime, here’s what’s on tap for this weekend:

NEW: Taylor Ave N at Mercer Street closure: 8:30am-3pm Friday

Just in: From 8:30am until 3pm on Friday, Taylor Ave N will be closed between Roy and Mercer streets as crews pave a portion of the roadway.

After Friday, Taylor Ave N will continue to be restricted to southbound travel only through November.

Mercer Street closure: 11pm Friday – 5am Saturday

Mercer St will be fully closed between Dexter and 9th Ave N from 11pm Friday, November 7th until 5am Saturday, November 8th. SDOT crews will be striping sections of the roadway, a step toward an additional eastbound lane on Mercer St expected to open later this month.

This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

Battery Street Tunnel closure: 9pm Saturday – 8am Sunday

The Battery Street Tunnel (SR 99) will be closed to both directions of traffic from 9pm Saturday, November 8th until 8am on Sunday, November 9. SDOT crews will be testing the fire suppression system.

Northbound 99 traffic will be routed off the viaduct at Western Ave, then directed to Broad Street, then to 2nd Ave, and on to Battery Street to return to northbound 99.

Southbound 99 traffic will be detoured at Denny Way, then directed to Wall Street, then to Elliott Avenue to return to southbound 99.

Note: Nearby residents may notice a small amount of sediment in their water for the first few hours after testing.
