On Fridays we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Casanova (black cat) – adopted!
Mama (lap cat) – available for adoption
Bunnies (Bella, Luna & Roscoe) – available for adoption

Pooky n Duke 2014-10-09 1Meet Duke and Pooky – ‘cuz two are better than one!

Pooky and Duke are best friends that arrived at the shelter together. They have been together almost 11 years – ever since they were pups – and they really need a home together.

The best home for them will be adults only and have some prior dog experience. A home that’s moderately active to calm would be a good fit. They are both house trained, so no worries there.

And both dogs are good with some other dogs (they are GREAT with each other!) and cats, too, with supervision.

Pooky 2014-10-09 1Pooky is a female, Husky mix. She’s a laid back lady – gentle, easy-going and calm. She likes going on walks, and a nice volunteer recently took her to Greenlake. Pooky didn’t make it all the way around the lake (3 miles), but she did well, and when she was all tired out, she hung out in the cool green grass where she got lots of pets and admiration from folks passing by. All the other dogs, kids, bikes and runners at the park didn’t faze her at all.

And in case you didn’t notice – she’s absolutely beautiful!! Pooky has one blue eye and one brown eye, so she’s extra special. She likes having her thick coat groomed so she can keep looking her best. She is probably just a tad overweight, so cutting down on the snacks, and taking a few more walks may be in order. Pooky knows how to ‘sit’ when asked, and she’d be happy to have her new person teach her more!

Duke 2014-10-09 1Duke is a male, Weimaraner/Lab mix. He has a lot of get-up-and-go and spunk for a fellow his age. Recently he went on an outing to Greenlake and he was pretty excited when he got there, but as the walk progressed he calmed down. After walking the lake he had energy to spare. Duke was really interested in all the squirrels and he enjoyed meeting all the new humans and everyone saying how handsome he is (who doesn’t like to hear that!)

He’s a playful guy, and balls are his favorite toy. He already knows ‘sit’ and he’s very interested in treats; he’d be glad to learn more commands if treats are involved! Duke is friendly and outgoing, and an overall great pooch.

These wonderful dogs qualify for the Senior Citizen Discount program: senior citizens or disabled adults with a ‘Gold Card for Healthy Aging’, or a ‘FLASH’ card, issued by the City of Seattle, may adopt an adult dog (at least six years old) at a special price. There will be no fee for the adoption itself, and the licensing fee will be half-price!

Duke and Pooky (SAS ID #1420952-1 & 2) would be honored if you would consider them. Come down to the Shelter today to meet them so they can charm your socks off! Dog Adoption Applications are available in the Shelter lobby, or you may download the application and bring it with you to the Shelter or follow the directions to submit it via email or fax. If you have general questions about these dogs, you may call the Shelter’s Animal Care Staff at 206-386-4294.
