Mercer Alert: Taylor Ave N and Dexter Ave N impacted by Mercer Corridor work starting Monday

There are a several upcoming changes to traffic patterns around Mercer St, as part of the ongoing Mercer Corridor Project. One closure affects Taylor Ave N, another Dexter Ave N – both where they meet Mercer and the surrounding blocks.

Here are the details from SDOT:

Taylor Ave N Closure – week of August 11th:
Starting as early as Monday, August 11th, Taylor Ave North will be closed to through traffic between Roy and Mercer streets. This closure is scheduled to accommodate water main installations on the north side of Mercer Street. The official start date and time for this closure will be released in the coming days (watch for the Weekend Roundup, we may have info by then).

Expect the following impacts:

  • Turns from Mercer to Taylor Ave N will be prohibited.
  • Turns from Taylor Ave N to Mercer will also be prohibited.
  • Local traffic and pedestrians, including vehicles entering and exiting the QFC parking garage, will have access to and from from Roy Street.

Dexter Ave N Turn & Bicycle Lanes Closures – August 11-15
From 9am-3pm, Monday, August 11 through Friday, August 15, turning lanes and bicycle lanes on Dexter Ave N will be restricted between Roy and Republican streets to accommodate electrical ductbank work. Signs will be posted and bicyclists will be directed to merge with traffic.

Expect the following impacts:

  • One lane in each direction on Dexter Ave N will remain open at all times. Uniformed police officers will be positioned at the intersection of Mercer and Dexter to direct traffic.
  • The northbound and southbound bicycle lanes on Dexter Ave N between Roy and Republican will be closed 9am-3pm from Monday, August 11 until Friday, August 15.

Mercer Closures Aug 11

Mercer Street New Configuration – mid-August start date
Beginning in mid-August, drivers will notice a shift in the configuration of Mercer as it crosses Dexter Ave N. Mercer will be shifted south to allow for demolition of the bridge over Broad Street and utility work through the intersection. Turning movements and the number of eastbound and westbound lanes will remain unchanged.
