The flyers have hit the streets! The bulls are coming! Helping celebrate the fiestas of San Fermin in Pamplona along with general good fun and imbibing of spirits, the 5th Annual Queen Anne Running of the Bulls is Saturday, July 12th.
The 5th running of the bulls on Queen Anne starts at the Paragon at 1pm. Last year, the bulls and runners didn’t hit the streets until close to 2pm, but there’s plenty of celebration in and around the Paragon prior to the race to Kerry Park. So, if the bulls are a little late to the show, no worries, they’ll be there!
The Comstock Commission organizes the annual Queen Anne event. Claims to fame other than the annual event? Don’t ask, don’t tell, rumor has it the super-secret organization is a division of the Queen Anne Mafia…
This year, as last year, the run coincides with Queen Anne Days. That means early birds can run the Crown of Queen Anne Fun Run in the morning, hit the carnival at the Queen Anne Community center and merchant sidewalk sale, grab some fuel, and then run again at 1pm. Or, late risers can get up, brunch, and run for their lives!
Regardless of your bull-running plans for next Saturday, keep in mind the dress code for the foot race – white shirts and pants, a red scarf, and fast shoes. A rolled up newspaper to swat at the charging bulls isn’t a bad idea either.
The start line is at the Paragon (2125 Queen Anne Ave N), with the bar/restaurant open for lunch and drinks to fuel up the runners. When the bulls are unleashed, the runners will charge down Queen Anne Ave N making their way to the finish line at Kerry Park. It’s free and anyone can join in – or just watch from the safety of the sidewalks.
Is it dangerous? The bulls have been known to be unruly, but no injuries have been reported in past years. Here’s the video from 2012 to get you ready to run!
