Rain, rain go away – or, just grab an umbrella to stroll along Queen Anne

Have you been outside today? Seems like we are paying for our dry December weather, as January seems to have “sopping wet” as its goal descriptor-wise.

To help ease everyone back into the typical rainy weather we’ve almost forgotten about, a new merchant-sponsored set of 100 umbrellas hit Queen Anne Ave N today.

The Umbrella Project was originally scheduled to launch tomorrow, Wednesday – but today’s especially gloomy weather has been brightened by an early appearance of the bumbershoots.

As you walk up and down Queen Anne Ave N on Upper Queen Anne, you can now grab an umbrella to use for free as you shop and stroll. Our local Queen Anne HomeStreet Bank branch manager, Hossein Soleymani, came up with the umbrella idea as a way to “thank our neighbors for their business and support of HomeStreet Bank for past 17 years on the hill.”

And, HomeStreet couldn’t do it all on its own – seven additional Queen Anne businesses have chipped in to make the umbrella idea turn into reality. You’ll see these familiar logos on the eight umbrella sections:

  • HomeStreet Bank
  • Bella Fiore Organic Skin Care
  • Charley + May Co
  • Queen Anne Book Company
  • Queen Anne Chiropractic Center
  • Queen Anne Dispatch
  • Queen Anne Real Estate
  • Three Birds

There are 22 umbrella stands in total, installed from Galer St to McGraw St on both sides of Queen Anne Ave N. The umbrellas will be available to the public year-round, and what a great way to ease visitors into the idea of shopping and getting outside in our Pacific Northwest climate!

The bright blue and silver umbrellas are in black metal stands along Queen Anne Ave N, so next time you get caught in especially heavy rain, you’re covered!
