Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Polly

Pet of the Week

On Fridays we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Meet Polly!

Polly is a sweet, busy and curious girl! When she first came to SAS she had some medical issues that made her feel grouchy and territorial. Thanks to the Help the Animals Fund, Polly’s in good health and has returned to her good humor.

Polly loves to run around and explore, and likes to frequently check in with her human companions. Polly is looking for a forever home where she can have plenty of fresh food, attention and space to roam around! She’d also like to find a bunny friend.

House rabbits need a large, rabbit-proofed indoor area of your house to live in. Rabbits are intelligent and social animals; they do best with a rabbit companion and need daily interaction with their human companions. Rabbits should be fed high quality hay pellets, fresh leafy greens (leaf lettuce, carrot tops, parsley, cilantro, and pesticide-free dandelion are good choices), as well as unlimited hay. Treats include small portions of carrot or fruit, such as apples, berries, pears, grapes and bananas.

Polly 2013-12-12 3With good care and lots of love, rabbits can live to be 7-10 years old. You are expected to make a lifetime commitment to your bunnies, and they should be treated as an integral part of the family. The primary caregiver must be a responsible adult, and young children should always be supervised when interacting with your bunny and instructed on proper approach and handling. Household cats or dogs should, of course, also be carefully supervised and introduced in a calm and quiet manner.

Polly (SAS #13-10716) is currently being adored in a SAS foster care. If you’re interested in meeting this sweet girl, please call the foster care hotline at 206-684-0685 or email sasfostercritters@gmail.com.
