On Fridays we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.
Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.
SAS Pet of the Week – Karoo
Karoo is a 4-year-old, male bearded dragon who could benefit from some extra love and attention. Karoo suffered head trauma as a young beardie and has a dent in his noggin and a mostly-blind left eye.
This makes hunting bugs (and even veggies) difficult for him, and requires extra patience from his human companion – and sometimes a helping pair of chopsticks to steer crickets back towards his good eye. Malnutrition left him with a slightly deformed jaw. It doesn’t hurt him, but you might notice the right side hangs lower than the left. His vet has confirmed that he’s extremely cute.
Karoo wasn’t handled much in his former life, so will require patience as he gets accustomed to being picked up and handled. Karoo would benefit from someone who’s crazy about reptiles and wants to give him a loving home suited to his special needs.
Bearded dragons are hardy, but do have some special requirements, including vitamin supplements, UVA and UVB light bulbs, and a carefully planned (and large enough!) tank/terrarium. They also require daily attention, including food preparation (live bugs as well as veggies), water changing, poop scooping and affection! You can learn more about them at www.beardeddragon.org.
Karoo is being adored in a foster home. If you’re interested in meeting Karoo, please call the foster care hotline at 206.684.0685 or email them at email@example.com.
