More than 900 girls in the Puget Sound region participate in Girls on the Run, a development program for 3rd through 8th grade girls. The non-profit organization’s mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident via a fun curriculum that includes running as a way to build confidence and fitness.

The program teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. At the end of the program, the girls are physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. And beyond the 5K, the program builds confidence and establishes a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Girls on the Run of Puget Sound operates programs at nearly 30 schools in King County, including our own John Hay Elementary.

On April 4th, the organization is hosting its annual auction fundraiser, The No Sweat Event at the Shilshole Bay Beach Club in Ballard at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased online.

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming auction, so if you’d like to help raise money for Girls on the Run, sign up at the auction website.

And, if you’d like to volunteer to be a coach, running buddy, volunteer, or intern with Girls on the Run of Puget Sound, you can connect with the organization online or at 206.528.2118. The organization relies on volunteers to donate their time to be coaches and running buddies for girls, and to help keep the organization running smoothly via volunteers that lend their professional skills, leadership, and passion for running.
