Is a New Bike on Your Holiday Wish List? Consider a Recycled Bicycle

November 20th, 2012 by Laura

If you’re in the market for a new bike, but want to keep things local and green, consider a recycled bicycle from a local, independently owned bike shop.

Sprocketts Recycled Bicycles opened earlier this year in the Interbay shopping complex next door to Whole Foods. The shop specializes in recycled bikes of all shapes and sizes – Sprocketts bikes are 99% recycled, 1% new (brake cables and inner tubes), so you can pick up a bike that gets a new life and isn’t taking up space in a landfill. Plus, 10% of the profits go to charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Ballard Food Bank, and individual needy families.

In addition to fitting you to the right recycled bike, you can also keep it in great working shape with service repairs, tune-ups, and spare parts from Sprocketts.

Mama, Sprocketts’ Mascot

You can keep up with the rotating inventory online or stop by the shop, and let owner Mike Benson help connect you with the right bike. If you do the latter, be sure to say hello to Mama, the shop mascot.

Sprocketts also has a holiday special – order your recycled bike (or a new one, they can do that too) now and save 15-20%. So, if a bike is on your holiday wish-list, consider a recycled bike – keep it green and local this holiday season!
