Queen Anne is home to many trees, but our tree canopy measured only 20% in 2007 – and the city’s goal is 30% tree canopy city-wide by 2037. If your yard needs the shade, air filtering, and other benefits of trees, you can apply for free trees from the city. The Seattle reLeaf Trees for Neighborhoods program helps Seattleites plant free trees around their homes. Tree supply is limited and applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, so apply now! (No guarantees, but it’s free to apply.)

Trees need care and feeding, so in addition to receiving up to 4 free trees per household, participants also receive watering bags, planting & care training, compost coupon, and workshops.

Requirements:
– Must be a Seattle resident
– Trees must be planted at the address on the application
– Trees can be planted anywhere in residential yards
– If you rent, you must obtain the permission of the homeowner
– Permits are required if planting street trees (permits are not guaranteed)

How To Apply:
Online – fastest way to apply!
Mail – download, print, and mail an application

Important Dates
– September 1: Street tree application deadline
– October 21: Yard tree application deadline
– October 27 or November 10: Pick up trees and attend a planting and care workshop
