If you’ve ever had visitors want to see the houseboats on Lake Union, but you’ve never ventured aboard one yourself, the 2012 Seattle Floating Homes Tour makes it possible for you (and any out-of-town guests) to check it off your list! A self-guided walking tour of 12 floating homes is slated for Sunday, September 9th, from noon-5pm.

Featured homes range from a “floating home-of-the-future” that features solar auxiliary power storage and a sod roof, a floating cottage hidden from the street by a secret garden gate, and two of the first floating homes built on hollow cement floats. A short sneak-preview video of the tour homes is available to whet your appetite.

Tour capacity is maxed at about 1,000 visitors and several prior tours have sold out, so the Floating Homes Association advises early purchases. If any tickets remain the day of the tour, they’ll be available starting at 11 AM on East Lake Union at the tour staging area (East Hamlin at Fairview Avenue East).
