The Mercer Mess will get a little less messy as Phase 3 of construction begins on Monday – however, the final work needed to open Mercer up to two-way traffic via 6 lanes is taking place this weekend, which means there’s a full weekend closure of the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street (August 24-27).
Ramp closures start Friday at 11:00 p.m. and run through Monday at 5:00 a.m. Expect detour routes to have heavy use. Other closures due to Phase 3 of the Mercer construction:
- I-5 on-ramp at University St
- Fairview Ave. N between Mercer St. and Valley St.
- Mercer St. between Westlake Ave. N and Fairview Ave. N.
And, finally on Monday, Mercer will be open to 2 way traffic:
A side note – if you’re willing to brave the closures this weekend, on Saturday, MOHAI is hosting a free showing of “Sleepless in Seattle”, the last in its free Movies in the Park series that celebrates movies filmed in Seattle. The movie begins approximately 30 minutes after sunset, outside at Lake Union Park. Blankets, chairs, and your own food and beverage are advised for your viewing pleasure.
