Updated: Thank you all for your comments. Not to worry, Queen Anne View is not going anywhere. Thea has been the heart and soul of this site and has made it a tremendous resource for the neighborhood. She let us know in June that she was packing up for new adventures and we immediately went in search of her replacement. We have a new editor ready to pick up where she left off. We’ll write a post of introduction a little later. We wish Thea the best of luck in the Big Apple. She is extremely talented and will do good things in life. Thank you, Kate Bergman, Next Door Media.
Earlier: Two years ago I moved back to Seattle and took a position editing a small hyperlocal blog in one of the city’s oldest and most interesting neighborhoods. In the time since I’ve been fortunate enough to cover anything and everything having to do with life here in Queen Anne – from local events, to breaking news and community issues that affect those of us living on and around the hill.
My time at Queen Anne View has been irreplaceable. After two years of keeping up on daily news coverage, running up and down the neighborhood’s steep slopes taking photos of new businesses, street art, and mysterious messages from the local bull running mobsters, keeping up on schools news, community gatherings and attending countless meetings to report on issues in and around the hood, I’m both excited and sad to report that I am taking the next big step in my life and career. In fact, I am writing this note from the Big Apple (more specifically, my tiny and still unfurnished apartment in Brooklyn), where I plan to continue to write daily and see where this life takes me.

If you’re going to Bumbershoot, perhaps the world’s most unusual and eclectic entertainment festival, held of course each summer in Queen Anne’s backyard, you won’t want to miss Seattle’s own Minus the Bear.
Supporting its funk-and-techno-fortified record OMNI, named after the tiny digital synthesizer that plays a key role on most of the songs, Minus the Bear will hit the Fisher Green Stage at 9:15 p.m., Saturday night.
MTB is worth checking out as they bring a certain energy to the stage that is hard to deny. The music is a quasi-blend of ’70s rock and techno-futurism guided by Jake Snider’s heartfelt vocals. While all eyes tend to focus on Snider, the quintet, made up of Snider, guitarist David Knudson, drummer Erin Tate, keyboardist Alex Rose and bassist Cory Murchy, share the spotlight. They work seamlessly as a team, each knowing that it is the music not the ego that must be obeyed.

A Queen Anne View reader has tipped the View that suspicious activity and illegal camping that had been going on in a remote greenbelt at 12th Avenue West and West Blaine Street was thwarted Wednesday.
The resident, who had witnessed suspicious people prowling around her car and other cars in the neighborhood, had also noticed six tents set up in the area where “No Camping” signs had been posted. The resident had spoken with Seattle Police and later with the Customer Service Bureau for the City of Seattle which sent personnel out to the site. The city officials found at least six tents set up on the remote greenbelt and told the campers that they had to get out within 48 hours or face arrest. The officials also informed the campers about legal housing options and drug rehabilitation programs. No word on whether the campers have complied yet, but the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation said it will comb the greenbelt weekly to deter any further camping. The View will keep readers posted on any new information.
Tips are welcome at tips@queenanneview.com.

One of the best ice cream shops in the country is set to open on Queen Anne in two weeks. Molly Moon’s Ice Cream will open at 321 W Galer at 3 p.m. on September 15. For the first two hours, they’re giving away free kid-sized scoops for those 12 and under.
Molly Moon’s, with shops in Wallingford and Capitol Hill, held a contest between Madrona, Ballard and Queen Anne from December through February to decide where it would open its doors next. The local ice creamery ultimately decided to open a full shop in Queen Anne, and a smaller “micro-shop” in Madrona.
Molly Moon’s Queen Anne will be open daily from 12-noon to 11 p.m. beginning Friday, Sept. 16.
