January 1st, 2011 by Thea

If you missed the Space Needle fireworks show last night, we’ve captured it all on video courtesy of a rooftop vantage point on the south slope of Queen Anne.

Sorry for the shaky camera—one my of resolutions for 2011 is to remember to use a tripod.

Happy new year Queen Anne!

Music in video: Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.”

SPD officer punched in face during arrest Dec 30

January 1st, 2011 by Thea

From the SPD blotter:

On December 30th at approximately 10:58 p.m. West Precinct Anti-Crime Team officers observed a domestic disturbance in progress in a parking lot in the 500 block of Queen Anne Avenue North.  Officers witnessed a male suspect assaulting his girlfriend.  As officers contacted the suspect he became confrontational and threatened to shoot the officers.  The suspect then attempted to punch one officer but missed.  While attempting to take the suspect into custody, a second officer was punched in the face and scratched by the suspect.

The suspect was placed under arrest.  During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered five grams of cocaine off the suspect.

The 33-year-old male suspect was subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Felony Assault on an Officer, Felony Narcotics violations, and Felony Harassment.  Additional charges were requested for misdemeanor domestic violence assault.

The injured officer was treated at the precinct with no further medical attention necessary.
