And Sullinsea, you are SO right, I often hear honking down below my windows, and look and see it is yet another car turning the wrong way onto Roy street, and cars honking to let them know they’re going the wrong way. There really should be better signage.

My understanding from the Seattle Times article is that the vehicle was turning left onto Roy from 1st. I could be wrong though.

Another thing the article noted is that the man & woman were in their 70s & 80s. At that age, any injury is life threatening, unfortunately.

I also live on this block. Didn’t see it happen, but yes, I often worry walking around when cars turn left, look for oncoming traffic, but don’t check for the legally crossing pedestrians.

I live on that block of Roy St. The police had it closed off all the way back to McMenamin’s, with a squad car and yellow tape at each intersection, for almost 1 1/2 hours. They even taped off BArtell’s parking lot. I’m surprised. I thought it might have been a film shoot because I did not see any injured pedestrians when I started my walk. Glad to hear the injuries were not life threatening. That’s a strange intersection. The pedestrian light is at the same time as the green light for autos making the left turn from 1st N. onto Roy.

The other thing that often happens in the neighborhood that is more of a risk for other autos than pedestrians is people pulling out of Bartell’s lot and making right turns going the wrong way on Roy. This should be better marked. The Market Place owner should paint a “left turn only” arrow at the exit. There isn’t one now. SDOT should also have a sign on the other side of the street indicating Roy is one way.

Was the vehicle making a left turn onto Roy from 1st Ave?

Seems like every other time I cross Roy, it’s a close one….
