The results are in from our survey on the proposed changes to Nickerson Street. The so called road diet would reduce the car lanes and add bicycle lanes to Nickerson. Over 700 people have taken the survey since we posted it a week ago.
Based on the results, you can see that we have a community divided with 48.4% of respondents in favor of the plan while 51.6% are opposed. The survey was designed so that people could only vote once to avoid stacking the results. We also posted the survey on our sister sites MagnoliaVoice and MyBallard since those areas are also impacted by any changes to Nickerson.
We will be taking the results to the Seattle City Council Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday (6/8) at 9:30a.m. in council chambers. We expect both sides will be there in force as this is the first public hearing for the changes.
The Magnolia Community Club, and the Queen Anne Community Council have come out against the plan while the Cascade Bicycle Club favors it and is urging members to attend the hearing. Support the Nickerson Street Road Diet is now on Facebook and Google.
We will have a report posted from the site following the meeting.

What’s the margin of error on this? I’m guessing that once that’s figured in, it’s a toss up.

You might like to say that “we have a community divided with 48.4% of respondents in favor of the plan while 51.6% are opposed,” but it is also true that that “division” would be more than enough to elect someone to office, even President and be seen as more than decisive.

Eric, It’s a survey not a poll. There is no “margin of error.”

Grr. I don’t understand the opposition to this.
I have seen lots of studies that show that this is good for everyone, and doesn’t increase traffic.
I have seen NO data indicating that this will cause more congestion. Just a lot of uninformed complaining.
Show me the data!

Maybe queenanneview.com can pull the data/results out of the city’s report(s) and present it within a post.

Vanderleun: then it probably shouldn’t be called a “poll” throughout the post. My point was that with 700 respondents to an internet survey, it should be acknowledged that it’s not really a representative sample of the community and results don’t represent the community as a whole.
