@JESilverstein – Traffic volume on Stone Way was less, but not significantly so. They observed a 6% reduction in volume as a result of their road diet, do you not welcome that potential on Nickerson? Also, there will still be two lanes at Etruria and Florentia so traffic will not be impacted at these locations. Wait times will stay the same.

We’ve got to remember that the bottlenecks are the Fremont Bridge and the Ballard Bridge, nothing is changing here. Fewer lanes in-between just means you’ll get to these bottlenecks tens of seconds later than normal. This is because you won’t have a choice BUT to follow the speed limit.

The problem with comparing the Nickerson St “diet” with the Stone Way change is that Stone Way has never had the traffic volume that Nickerson does. Those of us who live within a couple of blocks of Nickerson regularly see two lanes of traffic backed up for blocks and blocks when the Fremont Bridge goes up or during the height of rush hour. There are times when people trying to get onto Nickerson from Etruria or Florentia sit for 20 minutes trying to get on to the arterial. Reducing traffic lanes on Nickerson will cause more problems than it will solve. I dread what’s to come.
