Yesterday was opening day at the Queen Anne Farmers Market, and there was no shortage of festivities, from surprise swing dancing…

…to performances by the Coe Elementary and John Hay Elementary children’s choirs.

Canlis chef Jason Franey demoed his cooking skills (with samples!), and the folks from Chocolopolis handed out sweet treats.

Many QAFM old timers returned to the market this year…

..including Seattle street food favorites Parfait and Maximus/Minimus.

The market also welcomed a number of newcomers, including the folks from Jello Mold Farm in the Skagit Valley, who were excited to take part in their first farmers market ever.

The Queen Anne Farmers Market will be held every Thursday, through October 7, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. on W Crockett St. at Queen Anne Ave N. Happy market season, Queen Anne!

There were many stands preparing food (great if you were looking to pick up dinner), but I was disappointed there weren’t more produce vendors. Weren’t there more last year?

qamom, we had 20 farm stalls yesterday, and will have a few more as the season progresses. QAFM accepted every farm that applied this year, but as there are new markets in the city, there is increasing competition for farmers. You can help us attract more farm vendors by shopping weekly at the existing farm stalls. . . word spreads quickly among farmers about markets that are worth selling at.

To be a noble human being is to have a kind of openness to the far-out, an cleverness to trust aleatory things beyond your own restrain, that can govern you to be shattered in very exceptional circumstances for which you were not to blame. That says something remarkably impressive thither the get of the principled life: that it is based on a corporation in the uncertain and on a willingness to be exposed; it’s based on being more like a spy than like a treasure, something rather tenuous, but whose extremely particular beauty is inseparable from that fragility.
