Reader, Margaret, just wrote in reporting more car vandalism on Highland Dr, the second slew of smashed windshields seen on this street this week. She wrote,
Just finished my run and saw several cars with smashed windshields just west of Highland & 4th. Two Jaguars, one which is being repaired on site, and several others. One of the repair guys said several cars were vandalized overnight. Looks like the car crime spree continues on Queen Anne.
Another reader, Michael, reported seeing several windshields smashed in Highland and W Prospect between 5th and 6th on Tuesday morning, including two Jaguars (it is not yet clear if these two incidents involved the same Jaguars, different ones, or if they were targeted repeatedly this week).
As this is the second report of car vandalism we’ve had in the area since Tuesday, please keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report any information in the comments below.

I understand that the behavior exhibited by the perpetrator(s) in this case is reprehensible in just about every way, but must the causation always return to the “they must be jealous of what we've got” defense?

Seriously! If you want what “we have”, go work for it and get it. I never smashed a BMW because I was jealous, I went out and bought one after working hard to get the money to afford it.

Thank you for presuming and thank you for proving my point through your whole chestbeating “I own a luxury car” screed.
I too live in Queen Anne, I am quite gainfully employed and am also a domestic car owner, though not nearly as luxurious as A BMW. I bought it about 4 years ago, when I was of lesser means. Ironically, now that I am performing much better, I can't legitimize upgrading, as I only drive it about once a week, if that.
Arbitrary background story aside, I would not wish this on any car owner as it is not only devoid of respect for property, but also expensive to repair. That does not, however, make the “They must be jelous of my nice things” stance any less puerile or reactionary.
I will point out, that when walking on foot in Bellevue, the owners of luxury cars are consistently those most negligent of pedestrians and best exhibiting the roadborne entitlement complex and owning a vehicle of the sort may project that stigma onto one's self, regardless of how deserving.
Just another possibility to be considered.

I've owned a Beamer too, and it's not worth it. It's a target, as well as an assumed risk. You don't necessarily have to be “Rich” to purchase these things, as you've purported earlier.
You, of all people, and I'm only assuming, in a country of great disparity, should understand the risk of owning such things in areas of high population. To think otherwise would be either oblivious or naive.
Vandals and petty criminals are of two separate species, though I assumed you already knew that.
Vandals destroy and flee, mostly for a sense of personal satisfaction of bucking the system. Petty criminals, on the other hand, smash and grab, as a means of perceived necessity or otherwise, an unwillingness to participate in a rigged system.
Do you know of anything being stolen regarding the vehicles in question?
Based on this synopsis, what exactly is your stance, as wrong as both perspectives may indeed be?
