Queen Anne’s own Canlis has been nominated for two 2010 James Beard Awards through the James Beard Foundation, a non-profit that honors the best cuisine across the country “To celebrate, preserve, and nurture America’s culinary heritage and diversity in order to elevate the appreciation of our culinary excellence.”

Time magazine calls the JBF Restaurants and Chef Awards “the Oscars of the food world,” nominating establishments and culinary leaders across the country in a number of categories from “Outstanding Restaurateur,” to “Best New Restaurant,” and regional “Best Chef”.

Canlis is a semifinalist in two categories “Outstanding Restaurant” and “Outstanding Wine Service,” and are up against 19 other restaurants in each.

Other Seattle eats on the list: Tom Douglas, owner of Dahlia Bakery, Dahlia Lounge, Etta’s, Lola, Palace Kitchen and Serious Pie, is up for “Outstanding Restaurateur”; Jerry Traunfeld from Poppy has been nominated for “Best Chef”; Anchovies & Olives is up for “Best New Restaurant”; James Miller from Cafe Besalu is a semifinalist for “Outstanding Pastry Chef”; and Kevin Davis from the Steelhead Diner, Matt Dillon from The Corson Building, Mark Fuller from Spring Hill, Ethan Stowell from Union, Jason Wilson from Crush, and Rachel Yang from Joule are all up for “Best Chef: Northwest”.
