Buy your favorite Queen Anne street for $5

September 2nd, 2009 · 7 Comments

The city is selling hundreds of old Seattle street signs that are being replaced due to damage or wear. And they’re going for bargain prices!

Streets on Queen Anne that are up for grabs include Denny Way, Dexter Ave. N., McGraw St., Mercer St. and Nickerson St., all of which are going for $5. There’s a long list of streets available. Check out the options here.

Street signs can be purchased at the City’s Surplus Warehouse, located at 3807 2nd Ave S. Some of the historical or novelty signs may also be posted on EBay, the city says, so go get yours quick. Contact the warehouse with questions or for information on how to purchase an old street sign at (206) 684-0827. (Thanks CentralDistrictNews.com for tracking this down!)

This was a great story when i saw it on the Central District News site. Funny that you posted something about it the same day, but a few hours later. Weird. Is it really that hard to just include a link and a line saying where you found out about it?

    Dear Noel,

Sites like ours work best when bolstering other neighborhood news organizations, so we often share content, link and work together. That being said, it is also crucial to supply our readers, most of which live and work on Queen Anne, with news relevant to them.

We actually found out about the story from the City of Seattle (email list serves generally go out to large media lists all at once) and saw a similar story on the KOMO TV neighborhood blogs.

If you'll notice, My Ballard, Fremont Universe and Magnolia Voice all posted similar stories after Queen Anne View. We work together to get the word out on a great story that's happening city-wide!

I've heard great things about the Central District News, though I've never read it myself.

    Thanks for reading!

:) This is why I don't comment on the internet. Mostly, I am wrong. Stay tuned two years from now for my next wrong comment.

It's OK! Actually, Noel, thank you for pointing this out to us! It
turns out tons of people ripped this off CDNews (I don't know where it
started, but it's possible KOMO stole it from them, and we saw their
post, did some reported, and voila, no credit to the originator).

We've been ripped off before too (my work was actually copy-pasted
word for word by one of the PI bloggers a while back), and it sucks!
So it's good to have this all out in the open now, so hopefully all us
neighborhood blogs can be sure to credit each other.

Thanks! Please, keep reading. We're committed to being good
journalists, even in an all-digital, all-online, media frenzied world!
(And I'm sure CDNews is just the same!)

Thanks thanks thanks! Really, it's good to know. :)

    Thea
