Bookshop closes, Japanese restaurant to open

August 25th, 2009 · 28 Comments

Twice Sold Tales, the used bookstore at 7 Mercer Street that closed earlier this summer has still not found a new inhabitant. We walked by earlier today, only to see that the sign has been taken down, the lights turned off, and relics of left behind books still filling the abandoned shop shelves. RIP Twice Sold Tales. We will miss you.

Meanwhile just two doors down, at 11 Mercer St., construction has begun on Obasan. We dropped in and asked one of the workers, who said this new spot will be a Japanese restaurant when it’s finished (still no word on an exact date).

According to EveryBlock, the owners applied for a liquor license back in June, so whatever they may be, Uptown is in for a new eatery!
