When a man robbed the Key Bank on Queen Anne Ave. in Lower Queen Anne on Tuesday, he was in for a surprise. Instead of handing over the cash, the teller lunged at him, chased him for several blocks and captured him.

But two days later, the bank fired him. “My instincts kicked in,” Jim Nicholson told the Seattle Times, admitting he knew he violated the bank’s policy of complying with the bank robber’s demands to minimize the risk of violence. In this case, the robber was an unarmed transient with a lengthy criminal history.

That's understandable. As it turned out, he was a hero, but what if the guy had a gun and started shooting people? The employee violated company policy. He was fired. End of story.

Oooh, are you sure about this Geeky Swedes? The Times article on this had about 500 comments last I looked. Oh, well. Commence firing……..
Much as I hate banks, the policy is there for a reason. If he'd been armed (and according to the Times story the teller merely 'sized him up') the other tellers and customers would have been endangered. Over insured money. Not worth it. I've got no pity for this guy. He let 'adrenalin' push his actions.

I am sure NRA types will now advocate the bank tellers be armed. You know, Nicholson could just have shot and killed him right there and that would have taken care of that. Well, what's a little blood on the floor. It's easy to wipe up. You know. I mean especially if there were no other customers right behind him in line and that sort of thing. You know.
