Lauren Hall, resident of Queen Anne and graduate of Holy Names Academy ‘07, was recently named to the second team Arthur Ashe Jr. 2009 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars. The awards are presented by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, a national publication devoted to highlighting the diversity issues of two-year and four-year colleges and universities. The award honors undergraduates of color who have achieved both academically and athletically.
Hall is a member of the UCLA Bruin Swim & Dive Team and was one of eleven Bruin athletes of color to be recognized.
Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.’s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, every college and university in the country is invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars.
In addition to their athletic ability, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must exhibit academic excellence and community activism. To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2; and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
