On Saturday, June 6, streets will be restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction at the intersection of Queen Anne Ave N and W McGraw Street and also at the intersection of Queen Anne Ave N and W Galer Street, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. SDOT crews plan to stripe the pavement following work on pedestrian improvements.

The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates Seattle’s $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and
long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that better connect the city with the
region.

The Seattle Landmarks and Preservation Board has approved the “Aurora Bridge Fence” project. The fence is meant to deter jumpers from committing suicide. Construction on the $8.1 million project is slated to begin early 2010. The Queen Anne Community Council has opposed this plan for several reasons. According to a letter they sent the Landmarks and Preservation Board earlier this year, they believe that the fence will not prevent a significant number of suicides, the public dollars spent on the project will be wasted and adding the fence would greatly destroy the appearance of the bridge.

Bartell Drugs is hosting a “Stock the Pantry” Food Drive to feed children and families this summer. The food drive runs through June 14 at all 55 Bartell locations, including the store at 1929 Queen Anne Ave N, Seattle, WA. They are collecting nonperishable food donations for Northwest Harvest and are especially looking for kid-friendly food items such as tuna, instant oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, cheese crackers, applesauce and canned fruit in individual servings.
The two-week food drive is especially important to help Northwest Harvest replenish food supplies during summer months when families who normally depend on free or reduced-price school meals may struggle to provide those meals at home.
