Atlas Pilates Studio opens in lower Queen Anne

June 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments

Atlas Pilates is a new Pilates Studio located on Warren Ave N in the ground floor of the Bernard Apartments building of Lower Queen Anne. This studio offers private personal training, as well as inexpensive mat classes. The studio is fully equipped with the finest Gratz Pilates apparatus custom fabricated in New York, and is finished with low VOC materials for excellent indoor air quality.

Magnolia resident Teresa Shupe opened Atlas Pilates Studio in March, after more than a decade as a staff instructor at The Pilates and Physical Therapy Center of Seattle. She was tested and certified in 1998 – following a long apprenticeship – in the Pilates Method by Joseph Pilates’s only chosen protegee Romana Kryzanowska. Teresa, a former professional modern dancer, also holds a Black Belt in Kajukenbo Kung Fu. She has trained and taught Pilates in Seattle, New York, Chicago and Auckland.

Pilates instruction is focused on developing functional strength, stretch and control. It emphasizes proper breathing, good posture, and purposeful healthy exertion. For decades, it has been the serious fitness method of choice those who depend on their body for their livelihood. Among its demanding adherents are Olympic and professional athletes, models, and professional dancers. Many of Atlas’s clients are referred by physical therapists who are transitioning their patients into post-rehabilitation lifestyle fitness routine.
