Update on discussions regarding jail at Interbay

January 23rd, 2009 · 4 Comments

A community meeting is scheduled for January 28 to continue discussing alternatives to a new jail.  The meeting will be held at Seattle University in Pigott Auditorium from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

The MagnoliaVoice and the QueenAnnView have reported on the many meetings that have taken place over the last year.  Members of the West Queen Anne Community and Interbay Neighborhood Association voiced concerns over the placement of the jail in Interbay at a meeting on January 14th.  Among the concerns voiced were the 24-hr lighting of the jail, impact of the proposed viaduct tunnel, and more.  Unlike previous jail hearings, this meeting focused specifically on the Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process of scoping each potential jail site.
