Ten years after moving the Peniel Mission from Belltown to Lower Queen Anne, and 106 years after starting its work in Seattle, the CityTeam Ministries may close its doors on December 27.
During the last ten years, CityTeam Seattle has been facing the financial challenge of a yearly deficit. The national Board of Trustees, has allowed the mission to continue, realizing that they were unable to increase financial support and cover their own expenses.
With the harsh downturn in the economy and the decrease in donations, the Board members and the Executives have had to make some tough decisions for the ministry as a whole. Unless they can raise $1 million.
According to the Seattle PI, “Barring a “holiday miracle,” said Julie Stephenson, director of Northwest programs for CityTeam, “it just doesn’t look like we’ll be able to pull it together.”
